Modern building and insulating materials are a "game changer" when it comes to constructing a solid replacement roof over your existing conservatory.

Due to the technological advancement in producing lightweight components it is now possible to improve your old inefficient conservatory roof, with it's noisy polycarbonate roof sheets, that makes your conservatory too hot in the summer, and too cold in the winter!

    Another Visage Balmoral composite door

The Visage Balmoral is a stylish traditional door design that suits a wide range of property types. This must be one of our most popular composite doors – we’ve installed a fair few in recent years. We fitted this example to a house in Cowley. This door is blue outside and white inside. It is set into a Rehau profile white frame and finished with chrome hardware. Many glazing choices are available with these doors. This Balmoral is fitted with Contora pattern glass. As part o

    Conservatory with integrated veranda

Here’s a conservatory in Steventon that’s nearing completion. We’re just waiting for the floor screed to dry before we install underfloor heating. The aluminium bi-fold doors have a low threshold – once the floor tiles are laid, the floor of the conservatory will sit flush with the door threshold. The REAL Aluminium doors and the roof bars are finished in Anthracite Grey (RAL 7016). The self-cleaning glass roof projects a metre beyond the doors to form a veranda. The full hei

    Seeing double

We’ve just fitted new windows to this pair of bay-fronted houses in Cowley. The job was for an existing customer – last year, we installed matching Visage Cottage-range composite doors to each house. Black on the outside and white on the inside, the Visage composite doors are complemented by matching unglazed side panels and Rehau profile toplights that are fitted with Contora pattern glass. These fine houses each have two-faceted oriel bays on the first floor in addition to

Composite door colours – in praise of grey

You really can’t go wrong with a grey composite door. From the ever-popular dark grey of Anthracite, through mid greys such as Elephant, to the light grey of Agate or Painswick, a grey door looks great with brick, stone or rendered walls. Solidor Genoa composite door (Italia range). Set in a white frame, the door is finished in Painswick (RAL 7038) – an agate grey colour that suggests undertones of blue or green, depending on the light. Virtuoso composite door with matching a

    Fire Exit Door

We recently installed these aluminium fire exit doors to a commercial building in Osney. These are external fire exit doors – not to be confused with internal fire doors that are rated to withstand fire for a given period. Fire exit doors are designed to provide an easy means of emergency escape. Push the panic bar and the spring-loaded shootbolts are released, allowing the door to be pushed open. We will make sure that the correct type of door is fitted to suit your applicat

Safety glass – the why, the what and the where.

Safety glass protects people from injury caused by glass breakage. UK building regulations stipulate that safety glass must be fitted in ‘critical locations’. Critical locations are defined as: Glazing in doors – glass which is wholly or partially within 1500 mm from floor level. Glazing adjacent to doors – windows and side-panels that are wholly or partially within 300 mm of the edge of a door and which is also wholly or partially within 1500 mm from floor level, must be saf

Will Brexit lead to price rises in home improvements?

It is still by no means clear whether or not Brexit will actually happen. Within our industry however, impacts of Britain’s 2016 referendum vote to leave the European Union have been felt already. The vast majority of door and window products installed by Admiral Windows are of British manufacture. However, raw materials are traded on global markets and supplier prices have increased – partly due to a correction in the value of sterling. While Admiral Windows staff are all Ox

    Low-level letter-plate prohibition?

Tomorrow, Parliament will give a second reading to MP Vicky Ford’s bill to prohibit low-level letter-plates. If passed in the House of Commons, the bill will move to the House of Lords. If passed there, it will receive Royal Assent and become law. The proposed legislation would adopt EU standards on letter-plates, forcing them to be installed at a height of between 70 cm to 170 cm from the ground. Initially, this would only affect new doors on new-build properties. There is,

    The Admiral Windows Price Promise

Something that people often ask us is: ‘Why don’t window companies list prices on their websites?’ We understand the frustration! There are, however, several good reasons for this. Firstly, with so many possible design permutations and differences in specification between a multitude of window and door options, it would be very difficult to cover all eventualities. Also, websites go out of date! Bear in mind that the price we will quote includes installation, and that no two
